Introduction
Terms and Conditions - Here we outline some guidance for forum/gallery use. Most of this we hope will never be needed and it is intended only to be used in extreme circumstances. Its written to help protect everyone and so that we may act accordingly if spammers etc appear on the site. A decent attitude and good commonsense is genrally all everyone needs or wants from anyone here at Focal Planet.

Photo sizes

  • Photo's in the Gallery should not exceed 1000 Pixels along the longest edge or a total filesize of 500k. Advised sizes to aim for are around 800 px longest edge and filesize around 200kb. Thi saves space in your gallery and makes viewing of your photos easier for those on slower internet connection. Save the larger sizes for photo's with lots of detail or for pano's.
  • Photo's on the forum should follow the same thoughts as in the gallery photo's above using 1000px longest edge but only a 250kb max file size which is different from the gallery size. This makes loading of all topics on the forum quick.

General

  • This page and subsequent pages form the Terms and Conditions for accessing Focal Planet (the site) and all subdomains and subsections thereof.
  • All our terms and conditions apply to any content created by you, either directly or indirectly. This includes, but is not limited to : Registrations, usernames, posts on the forums, private messages, signatures, profiles, or any other comments on or via the forums.
  • Focal Planet staff may edit any site content as they see fit, or as needed to enforce the Terms and Conditions.
  • The use of anonymous proxies or such software or methods to access the site is not allowed.
  • Attempting to circumvent site security or gain access to restricted areas is not allowed.
  • Staff decisions are final.

Site Account

  • Membership of the site and ability to post on the forums or gallery, is a privilage, not a right.
  • You are only permitted one account on focal-pla.net If you are found to be using multiple accounts, then all relevant accounts may be banned.
  • We do not delete or close accounts on request.
  • Usernames must not contravene any of the rules that also govern all other site content, for example posts and signatures.
  • Usernames must not contain an email address or URL.
  • You must have a valid, active email address in your profile at all times. If an email from us to you is 'bounced back' then we may temporarily suspend your account until you contact us.
  • Email addresses will NEVER be passed to a third party, for ANY reason (except where required by law).

Focal Planet Participation

  • Members are encouraged to play the fullest part in the life of Focal Planet-through the Gallery & the Forum.
  • Helpful ideas, comments and constructive critique are welcome.
  • Courtesy and consideration toward fellow members is expected and any blatantly derogatory comments will be removed by the Focal Planet Moderators and Administrators
  • Failure to comply with this simple requirement may result in being temporarily banned from Focal Planet or if repeated after due warnings, a total ban from Focal Planet

Gallery Post’s

  • All images, graphics, and photographs posted remain copyright of the respective author, and will not be used by Focal Planet without express permission from the author.
  • While we can not stop people saving, copying or distributing any images shown here, we expect our members to respect the owner’s rights. If people are proven to be breaking these rules, they may have their account removed.
  • Focal Planet respects all copyright law. Any images displayed remain the copyright of the owner at all times.
  • We have a strict NO NUDITY policy although Glamour photography is permitted on granted permission of the Focal Planet Team.
  • If the Focal Planet Team allow it to be displayed & get complaints from other members regarding it’s content,it will be removed.
  • This also applies to any other material deemed offensive
  • Content directly copied from elsewhere and re-presented on Focal Planet must include a link back to the source material, and credit to the original author.
  • To respect people that still access the internet via dial up or that are running small screen resolutions, images displayed in posts should be no larger than 1000 pixels (800 pixels is about right) along their longest side, and if hosted by us in our free gallery, also have a maximum filesize of 512kb. There is no file size restriction on images hosted offsite, although we urge users to be sensible, we reserve the right to break links to images we feel may take too long to download.
  • Panoramic images are permitted up to a maximum of 1000 pixels along the longest edge. We consider an image panoramic if it contains 2 or more shots stitched together, and has a 2:1 size ratio or higher. This means that if an image is 1000 pixels long, then it must be maximum 500 pixels high.
  • Image dimension rules apply to all images, regardless of hosting.

Prohibited On Focal Planet

  • Copying, distributing, uploading, downloading, or sharing copyrighted material
  • How to bypass copyright protection
  • How to obtain copyrighted material
  • Hacked or reverse engineered code
  • How to circumvent any payment systems
  • Peer to Peer software (even for legitimate use)
  • Linking to such information
  • Adverts or commercial content or solicitations.
  • Links to commercial sites by members with a financial or personal link to said sites.
  • Market research, surveys or similar, unless pre-approved with the site Administrators.
  • Promotion or details of, or links/URLs to affiliate, commission, referral, pyramid or multi-level marketing schemes.
  • Pornography or otherwise offensive material.
  • Private details of anyone, even if freely available elsewhere.
  • Offering or requesting to be sent privately, any prohibited content.
  • If you are unsure of whether a post is allowed or not, please use the Contact Us link to check.

Editing Other Members Images

  • Any modification of images posted by other members, whether to enhance or otherwise may only be carried out with the permission of the original posting member then reposted on Focal Planet only. However, this is if the following conditions are met and agreed to:
  • The creator of the original photo still retains full copyright over the original photo.
  • The creator of the edited version agrees that by taking part in this process, they transfer all copyright of the edited photo back to the creator of the original.
  • The creator of the edited version does not hold claim to any moral or intellectual rights to the edited image they have created, however different from the original it may be.
  • The edited version must only be hosted, either on the Focal Planet Galleries (clearly marked as an edit of someone elses work) or privately on external webhosting, as long as it cannot be accessed or viewed by anyone else without a direct link

General Conduct

  • No swearing or offensive language.
  • No illegal or possibly illegal comments, for example, racist, libelous or threatening remarks.
  • We do not claim to be child friendly or a 'family forum', but please be mindful of others when posting. Just because you are not offended yourself doesn't mean someone else won't be.
  • Please don't take forum threads "Off Topic". However, the 'original poster' ("OP") of the thread is given more leniency to do so.
  • No 'goodbye' posts. If you wish to leave the forums or site, we regret that you are doing so, but please do so quietly.
  • No blatant and unnecessary spamming.
  • Please do not cross post threads and posts (Ie submitting the same thread/post twice or more in separate forum locations).
  • Trading outside the "For Sale or Wanted" forum is prohibited.

Conduct towards other members

  • No posting argumentative comments or remarks, or those aimed to invoke a negative reaction.
  • No offensive, rude or derogatory comments towards another member.
  • No insults or personal attacks towards other members.
  • No harassing behaviour towards other members.
  • Please have respect and offer courtesy towards fellow Focal Planet Members.
  • Disagree by all means, but criticise the thought, not the thinker. Healthy discussion is welcomed and encouraged, but we can all do so without being rude or using nastiness towards each other.
  • No criticising a member if they post something that has already been posted.
  • Please do not criticise staff decisions publicly. Instead, use the Contact Us link to resolve things privately and amicably.

Forum Posts

  • Postings express the views of the member and are not necessarily the views of Focal Planet.
  • Members remain solely responsible for the content of their posts.
  • You may include images in Forum Postings. Image dimension rules apply to all images, regardless of hosting

Avatars

  • You may select your own custom avatar by editing your User Control Panel.
  • You may upload an image of your own choosing, with a maximum size of 100 x 100 pixels, and filesize of 60k.

Signatures

  • You may select a signature to appear under your posts by editing your User Control Panel.
  • Your signature can be an image up to a maximum of 800 pixels wide, 200 pixels high, with a maximum filesize of 100k, text only or text and a smaller image.
  • In any case your signature may not exceed the equivalent height of 6 lines of normal sized forum text on an average monitor screen.
  • Signatures may NOT contain any dynamic code (eg, PHP code or rotating signatures), unless pre-approved by staff.
  • "Flash" of any kind is banned from use.

Private Messages

  • Members have the use of the forums Private Messaging system. This must not be used to contravene site rules.
  • Private messages between staff and members are to be kept private.
  • Staff may discuss the content of forum related Private Messages with other staff. But will maintain full confidentiality otherwise

Website Links (in your profile, signature etc)

  • Focal Planet members may include links to websites that are owned and maintained by themselves. Members are solely responsible for exercising due care in posting links.
  • DO NOT post links to sites that are not owned, maintained or founded by yourself.

Websites Links (General)

  • You may post links to other sites if you feel they offer a significant value to other Focal Planet members. Please also see notes in "Prohibited On Focal Planet" above.
