International Centre for Birds of Prey, Gloucestershire

by Val123

The ICBP is a really great place to go and spend the day photographing birds of prey in beautiful surroundings. Now back under the directorship of Jemima Parry-Jones MBE the site is really starting to look great again. Gone are the fences and the pampas grass that was a feature of the flying grounds. The area now has a wonderful background of trees and natural countryside.

There are three flying demonstrations during the day with different birds flown on each one. Jemima and her team have a real understanding of the birds in their care and this shows in the wonderful condition in which they are presented.

The centre also breeds a number of birds of prey and there is always the chance you may see one of the babies out and about with its handler or in training on the flying grounds.

In addition to the flying shots there is also a great opportunity to get portraits of the birds both on the hawk walk and in the aviaries. The wire on a number of the aviaries has now been replaced with a very fine mesh which enables a picture to be sucessfully taken through it.

For those willing or able to spend a little extra the Centre offers a number of photography days during the year.

They also do a great sarnie and slice of cake in the coffee shop! You even get to share the experience with one or a number of the resident Black Labs!
